Green
Gables, Hampsthwaite
This large detached family house has been extended in a piecemeal fashion
over the years by previous owner.
The kitchen space is the main fulcrum of the house but had limited space
for casual sitting and entertaining without having to go into another
room.
Due to the window size and despite having views to the front and back
the space was lacking in natural daylight and views to open countryside
were limited.
The solution allowed the kitchen space to be opened up into a family/dining
space. The incorporation of a glazed apex rooflight and the introduction
of a large glazed sliding door allowed natural light to flood in and the
views to be gathered into the internal space.
Architecturally the plan and form were kept simple in order to complement
the existing mix of height and scale.
