Meadfoot
House, Collingham
The clients had lived in their original property for 18 years and were
keen have a purpose built home.
The site is set well down from street level and was originally screened
by huge conifer trees which made the interior of the original house dark
and gloomy.
The clients were keen to self build as much as possible yet no experience
of construction on this scale.
To the rear are spectacular views over rolling countryside with a patch
work of fields and woodland giving a textured view.
The plan is very much on a north south axis and it was proposed to orientate
the principal rooms to take in the view. The introduction of a spine wall
as the point of vertical circulation and the strategic positioning of
roof-lights and windows allows natural daylight to penetrate deep into
the open plan spaces at the rear. As you move up the staircase views into
spaces both sides and beyond to the countryside are achieved.
