Rudding
Dower, Harrogate
This original saw mill was subdivided in to separate dwelling units in
the past. The rear private courtyard serving the property was occupied
by an industrial size oil tank and boiler enclosed in a leaking lean to
glazed roof structure.
The clients wanted an additional sitting ‘chill out’ space
located off the kitchen at lower ground floor and also a small decked
area for sitting out in the evening accessed off the raised ground floor
sitting area.
It was important to try to embellish daylight levels into the new lower
ground floor space and the introduction of the angled glazed structure
enables this to be achieved satisfactorily.
The courtyard has received an unobtrusive external lighting and planting
scheme which has embellished the area and potential for use as an outside
entertaining area.
